    Wed, 2010-04-07 - Thu, 2010-04-08

Convened by the UN Global Compact, the second meeting of the Caring for Climate Signatories will take place at UN Headquarters in Geneva.

As the negotiations for a global climate agreement are entering the next round, the UN Global Compact is seeking to build on the momentum generated in the past years to both deepen the engagement of companies in Caring for Climate and win over more companies to take climate action. The Second meeting of Caring for Climate Signatories will bring together some 150 corporate practitioners, climate experts and civil society leaders. Participants will be invited to share cutting edge practices in managing risks and opportunities associated with climate change action.

The meeting will focus on (i) advancing mitigation efforts and promoting the diffusion of innovative low-carbon technologies in particular in developing markets and emerging markets as well as (ii) enhancing the understanding of the role of business in adapting to the impacts of climate change.

More specifically, the event intends to achieve the following:

    • Provide a platform for Caring for Climate signatories to showcase cutting-edge practices and solutions in addressing climate change, learn from each other and inspire a larger number of companies to take action.

    • Review the implications of COP15 for business and ensure that business leaders remain at the forefront of climate action ahead of this year’s UN Climate Change Conference (COP 16) in Mexico.

  28. Call for Papers: Democratizing Climate Governance Conference

    Thu, 2010-04-01

The purpose of this conference is to examine these challenges and explore potential avenues for democratizing climate governance. Climate governance manifests in various forms and at various levels, as such ANU invites papers concerned with public, private, and hybrid modes of governance at local, national, and/or global levels.

Understanding and responding to the democratic challenges posed by climate change will require advances in theory as well as empirical research, and we welcome papers that fall into either or both of these categories. Papers that approach the challenge from a discursive or deliberative perspective are especially encouraged, however we welcome a range of theoretical and disciplinary perspectives.
